MARION COUNTY — A Centralia husband and wife were killed Monday night and another man injured when the motorcycles they were riding were involved in a head-on collision with a car on Route 37 in Kell.

Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon pronounced 50-year-old Terry Hatcher dead at the scene Hatcher’s 49-year-old wife Rhonda was being airlifted from the scene, but Cannon says her condition quickly deteriorated in flight and the helicopter was diverted to Salem Township Hospital, where she died a short time later.

The second motorcycle was being driven by another Centralia man. He was injured in the crash and was airlifted from SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and transported to a St. Louis area hospital. His condition is unknown and his identity is not being released at this time.

The male driver of the car suffered was injured in the crash and was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

The crash happened just before 10 p.m. Monday night just north of Kell Road. Authorities closed Route 37 between Kell Road and Route 161 until 3 o’clock Tuesday morning.

The Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the dynamics and details of the crash.  Kell Fire Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County ESDA, and Marion County EMS all assisted with the incident.
