CHICAGO (AP) — A northern Illinois man charged with manufacturing and possessing two pipe bombs will be taken into federal custody.

A news release issued Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois says U.S. Magistrate Judge Sidney Schenkier has ordered 28-year-old Michael Suopys of Lindenhurst held without bond on a charge of knowingly possessing an unregistered destructive device.

Suopys had also been charged in Lake County Circuit Court with possessing bombs containing an explosive substance, but the state dismissed the charge Thursday morning.

He was arrested in May after authorities searched his home and found the suspected pipe bombs.

A detention hearing for Suopys has been scheduled for June 15. It was not immediately clear if Suopys has an attorney.
