SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Gov. Bruce Rauner’s budget fight with House Speaker Michael Madigan is well known across Illinois. But the Republican now is seeking to extend the scuffle to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, the speaker’s daughter.

The Republican repeated a claim last week that the Democratic House speaker and Senate President John Cullerton are trying to “create a crisis” by refusing to compromise with him on a budget deal.

Rauner then alleged that Lisa Madigan is in on the scheme too, saying the Democrat’s efforts to persuade courts to stop worker paychecks also is intended to create a crisis.

The attorney general dismisses the allegation. Her office wouldn’t say whether she will continue to pursue the worker pay case, but argued that the best solution is a budget compromise.
