CENTRAL CITY — A high-speed chase through Central City and Centralia Sunday afternoon resulted in two women being taken to the Marion County Jail, after their vehicle overturned.

According to Central City police, they attempted to stop an SUV being driven by 30-year-old Kendall Devore, of Effingham.

She instead reportedly sped down Lincoln Street to MLK Drive and into Foundation Park, where she drove across the grass and across a wooden pedestrian bridge that suffered approximately $1,000 in damage.

At that time the passenger, 29-year-old Rose Bounds, of Walnut Hill, jumped from the vehicle. Police, with the assistance of the Marion County K-9 unit, later found Bounds hiding in the park.

Officers reportedly found several individually packaged baggies of crack cocaine in her purse, along with items reportedly stolen from the Dollar General Store earlier in the day.

Devore, however, sped out of the park and into downtown Centralia, eventually heading north on Elm Street into Central City, where she failed to navigate a turn into an alley, struck a fence and ultimately flipped the vehicle onto its top.

She was taken into custody, with police reportedly discovering crack cocaine, cannabis, an electronic scale, and a stun gun inside Devore’s purse.

She was taken to the Marion County Jail on charges of driving under the influence, aggravated fleeing and eluding, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, criminal damage to property, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Bounds was arrested for alleged possession with the intent to deliver cocaine, and on an outstanding Marion County warrant for failure to appear on a 2016 case charging her with felony distribution of narcotics. Bail on that warrant had previously been set at $25,000.

Both women were first taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital before being transported to the county jail.
