CHICAGO — The Chicago Tribune has announced that former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert will be serving his 15-month prison sentence in a federal medical prison in Minnesota.

The publication cites sources close to the case, says that with credit for good behavior, Hastert could be released in about 12 1/2 months.

The 74-year-old Hastert is in declining health, and the judge who rejected Hastert’s plea for probation recommended the high-level medical facility.

Once second in line for the presidency, Hastert was convicted of federal bank violations stemming from a hush-money case that ultimately revealed decades-old sexual misconduct against minors.

Hastert, who must surrender at 2 p.m. Wednesday to begin serving his sentence, has been issued federal inmate No. 47991-424.
