WAYNE COUNTY — Felony charges have been dismissed against a 32-year-old Fairfield man charged with two counts Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a family member under the age of 18.

Matthew C. Brenner was arrested in March when agents with Homeland Security executed a search warrant at his home and seized computers and other electronic devices. Agents, along with Fairfield City Police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services investigated the case.

Children that were in Brenner’s home have been removed and placed with relatives.  Investigators are analyzing computer equipment seized from Brenner’s home, which could result in additional charges.

It’s unclear at this time why prosecutors elected to dismiss the charges against Brenner.
