Flora bicyclist struck by semi on U.S. 50

CLAY COUNTY — 34-year-old Flora bicyclist was airlifted Sunday from the scene of a crash on U.S. 50, where he had reportedly been struck by a semi.

Derek Bailey was seriously injured in the crash, which happened just before 7 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 50 just west of Flora.

Bailey was riding his bicycle close to the white line along US 50, off the laned portion of the highway.

The semi, driven by 42-year-old Curt J. Szentgyorgyikiss of Xenia, reportedly struck Bailey, causing him to be thrown off the bicycle and into a ditch.

The semi driver was cited for failure to yield.
