Red Bud woman pleads guilty in crash that killed 2 women

RED BUD, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois woman has pleaded guilty in connection with the drunken driving deaths of two women in January 2015.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that 21-year-old Crystal Steinheimer of Red Bud will be sentenced July 14. She entered the plea Friday as her reckless homicide trial was to begin. She previously pleaded not guilty to charges of DUI and causing the deaths of 19-year-old Abigail Liefer and 20-year-old Hannah Marie Porter. Both women were from Red Bud.

Authorities say Steinheimer was driving north on Illinois 159 when she lost control of her vehicle and struck another vehicle. Police reports show her blood alcohol was .179, more than twice the .08 legal limit. She also was younger than the legal drinking age.
