MOUNT VERNON — According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Chris Deichman, the male passenger of a vehicle was shot Saturday while driving by a house party at 15th and Lamar streets in Mt. Vernon.

Deichman says the shooting was essentially a “reverse drive-by” in that someone shot into the moving vehicle. As shots were fired at the vehicle, a passenger felt a stinging sensation and realized he’d been shot. The car sped away and drove the victim to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Despite a large crowd at the house party, Deichman says no one present at the time saw what happened. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them at either 618-242-2131 or Crime Stoppers at 618-242-8477. You can remain anonymous at either number.
