Shawn “Puffy” Adamson was arrested for the shooting death of 23-year-old Ciara Faires in Mattoon over the weekend.

Just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, Centralia police and their crisis response unit, Mattoon Police officers and Coles County State’s Attorney Brian Bower, executed a high-risk search warrant on the north side of Centralia in an attempt to locate Adamson for questioning in the Faires shooting death.

Adamson was found at the Centralia residence and taken into custody without incident for alleged aggravated discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and intimidation.

He was then returned to Coles County, where he remains in jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.

Mattoon police had already arrested three other men in connection with Faires’ death, but had not yet located Adamson.

Last week in Fayette County, Adamson submitted conditions of a plea agreement on a 2015 case charging him with Class 3 felonies for possession of meth and two counts felon in possession of a firearm. He is scheduled for a status hearing in July.
