BALDWIN, Ill. (AP) — The Houston-based operator of the Baldwin Energy Complex says one of the power plant’s three coal-powered generating units will shut down by October.

Dynegy Inc. announced in May that it plans to shutter two of its units at the Baldwin Energy Complex and one unit at the Newton Power Station over the next year. The company said generating prices were set too low for the plants to recover their operating costs.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Dynegy is still waiting for the shutdowns to be approved by the Midcontinent Independent Service Operator, the power grid that serves central and southern Illinois, as well as areas of 12 other U.S. states and portions of Canada.

Dynegy has said about 122 of the Baldwin plant’s employees will be out of work after both units close.
