BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A former Swansea man has been sentenced to 56 years in prison for the repeated rape of a 10-year-old girl.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that 33-year-old Gary Mikel Grodin pleaded guilty to four of the 31 child pornography and predatory criminal sexual assault charges against him.

St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly called the sentence justified in the “disturbing and heartbreaking” case. Grodin’s attorney declined comment.

An Oklahoma resident told police a year ago he received a Facebook message in which Grodin said he was staying with an ex-girlfriend in Illinois and discussed a sexual relationship with the woman’s 10-year-old child.

Swansea police found dozens of photographs and videos of the child being raped from December 2014 to June 2015.
