JEFFERSON COUNTY — According to Illinois State Police, two Carbondale residents were injured Sunday morning in a one car crash on Interstate 57 just south of Mt. Vernon.

Accident reports say 23-year-old Cynthia Brackens was traveling northbound on I-57 when her vehicle drifted off the west side of the roadway near the 90 mile marker.  She over corrected the vehicle, re-entered the roadway and overturned.

The four occupants of Brackens’ vehicle were taken to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, with the driver receiving major, but non-life threatening injuries.

One of the three passengers, 21-year-old Mary Drake, also received major life threatening injuries and was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital.

The other two passengers, 4-year-old Daniel Drake and 2-year-old Arria Allen, were uninjured.
