JASPER COUNTY — A Saturday night single-vehicle traffic crash in southwestern Jasper County claimed the lives of two Clay County residents and injured four others, including a Kinmundy man.

According to Illinois State Police, 26-year-old Cody Drake of Louisville was driving southbound around 7 p.m. Saturday on Jasper County Road 400 E., when he ran off the right side of the road, and over corrected.

The pickup truck he was driving then slid sideways down the road before running off the left side of the roadway, where it overturned once.

Drake and 25-year-old right, front seat passenger Blake Fehrenbacher of Ingraham, were both ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene by the Jasper County Coroner.

Four other passengers in the vehicle were all injured, including 20-year-old Dalton Lee Courson of Kinmundy, who was transferred to Carle Hospital in Champaign for treatment of serious injuries.

Three other passengers, 25-year-old Victoria Streif of Louisville, 22-year-old Kendra Sue Courson of Ingraham, and 18-year-old Kaylee Sue Sefton of Brownstown were all transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham for treatment of apparent minor injuries.

All four injured passengers were issued citations for failure to wear a seatbelt and for illegal consumption of liquor.
