CENTRALIA — As the counrty was being rocked by word of 12 police officers being shot in Dallas, Texas last night, Centralia police officers were responding to the second shooting incident in the city this week, and would later be called out to a separate stabbing incident.

Around 10 p.m. Thursday, police received a call from Charles McGee, an occupant of a house in the 1200 block of North McKee, reporting shots had been fired into the house.

According to police, McGee said an unidentified person knocked on the door, said “It’s me,” and then fired into a side window of the home before fleeing on foot, presumably still armed.

Officers and deputies from multiple agencies responded to the scene, which was secured within minutes of the call being received. The shot reportedly went through the window, through an interior wall and into the bathroom floor. No injuries were reported.

Both Clinton and Marion County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Central City, Sandoval and Wamac police officers responded to assist Centralia on the call.

Centralia police detectives are investigating, but believe it to be another gang related incident. No description of the alleged shooter was given. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Centralia Police Department or call 1-800-499-UTEL or 1-800-499-8835.

This is the second shooting incident in Centralia this week as gang activity is increasing. In the early morning hours on Sunday police responded to a call of shots fired inside the American Legion on South Poplar Street.

A reported brawl resulted in one subject being beaten by rival gang members before someone else into the ceiling, sending the large crowd running from the building as officers were arriving. No descriptions of the people involved in the beating were provided.

Much of that crowd quickly gathered up the road at Party Liquor, where the talk in the crowd was about a revenge shooting.

Violence continued in the city Thursday night, with a report of a stabbing in the 100 block of Johnson Street coming in just before midnight.

At last report officers were in pursuit of a subject who had fled on foot. The extent of the victim’s injuries are not clear at this time, but it is believed he was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment.
