MOUNT VERNON — Two people are in the Jefferson County Jail, after the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team executed a search warrant Wednesday at 328 South 2nd Street in Mt. Vernon.

Officers arrested 68-year-old Morton F Dorothy and 27-year-old Brittany L. Cox on charges of unlawful disposal of meth waste, possession of meth, manufacture of meth, possession of meth manufacturing materials, and possession of drug equipment..

The search warrant was obtained through investigations by the MVPD/JCSO Narcotics Division, with the assistance of the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office, after an investigation indicated that controlled substances were being manufactured at the residence.

After the residence was secured a search was conducted by Narcotics Division Detectives, who reportedly located methamphetamine, chemicals and items used in the production of methamphetamine, and drug equipment.

The Mt Vernon Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team and the Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team responded to assist with the clean up.

Dorothy and Cox remain in the Jefferson County jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
