SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A federal judge has convicted a suburban Chicago man for fraudulently overbilling Illinois’ Medicaid program by $4.7 million.

Federal prosecutors say a Springfield federal judge held a bench trial 67-year-old Gregory D. Toran of Hazel Crest during a bench trial. The verdict was filed this week.

Toran is owner of IBT Transportation LLC, which the court found billed Medicaid for the medical transport of deceased patients and patients who weren’t transported because they were hospitalized. The court found the company also billed for more miles than were driven and more patients than the company could physically transport.

Another owner of IBT Transportation LLC, 44-year-old Tina Kimbrough of Berwyn, pleaded guilty in June 2015 in the case.

Kimbrough is to be sentenced Aug. 15 and Toran’s sentencing will be Nov. 14.
