URBANA, Ill. (AP) — An employee of a central Illinois care facility has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for soliciting men to rape elderly dementia residents while he videotaped them.

The sentence handed Friday to 26-year-old Channing Butler was one year shy of what the state urged Judge Heidi Ladd to impose.

Butler of Champaign pleaded guilty in June to solicitation to commit aggravated criminal sexual assault of three women who lived at a Champaign assisted living facility.

The state’s attorney’s office on Thursday filed charges against three other suspects, two of whom are currently serving prison terms for other crimes.

Butler was a certified nursing assistant and the sole caretaker on the locked unit at night.

Butler apologized to the victims’ families and his own for what he called his “outlandish” behavior.
