MURPHYSBORO — Storms that rolled through Murphysboro Monday caused the roof of the Murphysboro High School auditorium to collapse.

According to our sister station WQRL in Benton, no one was hurt. A fence has been put up to keep people away from the area.

The auditorium was closed off last week after it was found that the heating and air conditioning unit had dropped about three feet. School officials had construction crews remove the unit and close up the roof. A pump was also installed to prevent water from accumulating on the roof.

School leaders say the building will be ready with a “partial occupancy” permit in time for classes to start on August 17.
