CENTRALIA — Quick actions yesterday by Centralia first responders saved a 5-year-old boy who had been sucked into a driveway pipe culvert in front of his home after heavy thunderstorms swept through the area.

According to reports, around 5 p.m. Wednesday the boy was playing in the yard of his Bel Air Drive home when water pulled him into the culvert knees first. The boy’s mom was holding his head out of the water as 911 was called for help.

City of Centralia police and firefighters quickly responded and were able to safely pull the boy from the culvert. Lifestar ambulance was on scene to help quickly warm the boy once he was pulled from the water.
