SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Admission to the Illinois State Fair is up 40 percent and preview night is no longer free — but officials have gussied it up with grandstand entertainment and a free concert.

The Aug. 11 preview night following the Twilight Parade will carry a $5 admission fee. But that’s half the price of regular admission and includes music by The Chicago 6 — featuring Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson and Steve McMichael of the 1985 Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears.

The fair runs Aug. 11 to Aug. 21. Admission is $10, up from $7, with discounts for seniors and kids to age 12, free.

This year, the fair introduces a smartphone app that lets users plan their day at the festival, find specific types of food and set reminders for events.
