MOUNT VERNON — A ribbon cutting was held Friday morning for the new Mt. Vernon High School. The $74 million project took nearly six years to plan and design, and two years to complete. About 1,800 students will attend the new school.

The facility features a state of the art culinary classroom and one of the best automotive wings in the state. The new school will also include a $300,000 greenhouse for the agriculture department to promote more hands on learning.

Governor Bruce Rauner participated in the ribbon cutting.
