SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois State Fair has a loyal participant and a reigning champion in 94-year-old Marian Brockschmidt. The Springfield resident has exhibited at the fair 67 years and often goes home a winner.

This year, she’s taking home eight first-place ribbons for quilts and other textile entries. Brockschmidt entered a total of 21 exhibits.

Brockschmidt says when she doesn’t win, she feels happy for those who do. She says that’s because she remembers how it felt to beat a longtime champion.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture issued a news release inviting the public to view Brockschmidt’s exhibits and those of other hobbyists. The displays are open at the Hobbies Arts and Crafts Building from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Illinois State Fair runs through Sunday at the fairgrounds in Springfield.
