MOUNT VERNON — The Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team executed a search warrant Wednesday morning at a home in the 200 block of South Second Street in Mt. Vernon.

The High Risk Team located both residents, 34-year-old Charles Bird and 47-year-old Tina Bird, inside the home and they were taken into custody. The  investigation that led to the search warrant indicated that methamphetamine was being manufactured at the residence.

A search of the residence reportedly revealed waste from meth production, materials used in the manufacture of meth, and drug equipment with meth residue.

Members of the Mt Vernon Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team and the Illinois State Police Meth. Response Team responded to assist with securing the scene, as well as the collection and disposal of hazardous materials found at the residence.

Charles Bird was charged with Meth Manufacturing, Improper Disposal of Meth. Manufacturing Waste, Possession of Meth Manufacturing Material, Possession of Meth and Possession of Drug Equipment. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting the setting of bail.

Tina Bird was charged with Meth Manufacturing, Possession of Meth Manufacturing Material, Possession of Meth and Possession of Drug Equipment. Tina Bird is also in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting the setting of bail. In addition to the Meth. related charges, Tina Bird was arrested on an unrelated outstanding Jefferson County Probation Violation warrant.
