BETHALTO, Ill. (AP) — Police in a southwestern Illinois community are investigating after a man who was apparently locked out of his house broke a window to get in, seriously cut his arm and died.

The (Alton) Telegraph reports that a neighbor called police after spotting the man around 7 a.m. Monday.

Bethalto police say the man apparently broke the window when he was locked out either Sunday or early Monday, which caused a serious arm laceration and significant bleeding.

Police say the man was not the victim of a crime and there isn’t evidence that he contacted anyone for help.

Further details, including the man’s identity, were not available.

The investigation is ongoing.
