Autopsy results show ultralight pilot perished from crash injuries

(MOUNT VERNON) — An autopsy has been completed following Tuesday’s ultralight plane crash south of Mt. Vernon Outland Airport.  The pilot died from injuries sustained in the crash in a bean field near North Chestnut Lane and East Liberty Road in Mt. Vernon.

The report from Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Joe Marks staes 39-year-old Jason Pearson of McLeansboro sustained massive blunt force trauma caused by the deceleration and crash of the plane. Reportedly there weren’t health problems discovered that could have contributed to the crash.

A joint investigation by the Coroner’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Aviation Administration continues.
