Lincoln museum to hold session for new volunteers

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield has planned an orientation session for potential volunteers. Volunteers give about 40,000 hours of service annually to the library and museum. Museum officials say the value of that volunteer time over the past 11 years has been more than $10 million. The orientation for volunteers on Sept. 15 is designed to acquaint people with the opportunities available and begin teaching them about the library and museum. It’s a two-hour session that starts at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s multi-purpose room. Volunteers will be asked to attend three additional sessions: Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and Oct. 11. Call the museum to register.
