(Toluca, IL) — One police officer from the tiny Toluca Police Department was fired this weekend and two others resigned in protest, accusing the town’s mayor of misconduct. Mayor Hank Zilm admits he took the badge of one part-time officer Saturday night after he refused to check IDs at a privately-run beer tent at the town’s Labor Day celebration. Chief Terry Ryan and another officer handed over their badges in protest. The cops say using on-duty police to work at a private business constitutes misconduct. Zilm says he’ll meet with the city’s attorney Tuesday.
