Mt. Vernon City Council To Meet

(MT. VERNON, IL) — Mt. Vernon City Council is due to meet this evening. They will open with a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. to inform the public of the proposed application to the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and to the Illinois Housing Development Authority for Housing Rehabilitation Grants to provide safe and sanitary housing for low to moderate income persons within the target area of the City of Mt. Vernon. The regular meeting will start at 7 p.m. Among items on the agenda, the council will hear bid results for 12th Street sidewalk and curb project as well as permission to seek bids for asbestos and mold abatement at City Hall. The City Manager will ask for consent of assignment for property at Miller Lake in addition to providing a capital projects report. The City Attorney will give first readings of an ordinance establishing water and sewer rates and implementing a capital improvement fee dedicated to public utilities capital improvements and an ordinance authorizing transfer of surplus property to Central Christian Church. Also, the city attorney will read a resolution approving an interagency agreement with Jefferson County Health Department and a resolution approving support to apply for a community development assistance program grant. Finally, the mayor will read a proclamation celebrating the 40th anniversary of Cedarhurst Craft Fair and a presentation of Republic Rewards Grant. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. after the 6:30 p.m. public hearing, both at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building.
