IHSA Recognizes Muir, Others For Distinguished Media Service

(BLOOMINGTON, IL) — The Illinois High School Association announced Thursday that WQRL’s Jim Muir has been named to the IHSA’s fourth class of recipients of the IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award. Muir joins IHSA TV icon Dave Bernhard and Don Werntz of Big Radio in Freeport as this year’s honorees. Muir announced earlier this year that he will retire as Sports Director at WQRL at the end of the 2016-17 school year after over 25 years and 3,000 broadcasts. The award was created to recognize media members who have covered high school sports and activities in Illinois for a significant period of time, while maintaining perspective on the amateur events they report on. IHSA member schools submitted nominations for the award.  Muir will receive his award during the Benton vs. Sesser-Valier boys basketball game at the Benton Invitational Tournament on Jan. 20.
