MOUNT VERNON — A  24-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail, after being arrested over the weekend by Mt. Vernon police for multiple charges including for burglary of a local auto dealership.

Quavarus Jackson was arrested for alleged burglary, criminal trespass to property, and criminal damage to property.

MVPD officers responded just before 9:30 Saturday night to a residence in the 700 block of South 23rd for a trespassing call. Upon their arrival officers say they were informed there was a person who had broken into the vacant residence and was still present. Officers observed forced entry to the residence. Upon entering the residence officers located Jackson inside.

After taking Jackson into custody officers reported finding property stolen during a burglary of Ford Square which occurred on Friday night. Additionally, one of the officers recognized Jackson from video surveillance at Ford Square as being the burglar.

Jackson was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he awaits the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
