MOUNT VERNON — Law enforcement is investigating an early Sunday morning incident that sent one person to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, just before 3 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Illinois State Police, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a gunshot fired in the area of 11th and Lamar.

When officers arrived they found a gathering of approximately 50-75 people, with one person suffering from a gunshot wound. The injured person was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
