WASHINGTON COUNTY — Illinois State Police investigating the death of a 36-year-old Nashville woman found dead from a gunshot wound, have identified the woman as Nicole Hicks.

According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, he was dispatched around 3:15 Monday afternoon to an address in the 13000 block of Hahlen Church Road in Nashville on a report of a deceased female.

Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and Nashville police officers were already on scene, having responded to a call of a woman suffering from a gunshot wound at the home. Styninger pronounced Hicks dead at the scene and an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Belleville.

Styninger says the woman’s death is being investigated by the Coroner’s Office, Nashville Police Department, Washington and County Sheriff’s Office, with the Illinois State Police heading the investigation. The residence where the woman was found has been taped off and remains secured by the Illinois State Police.
