Robert Tyler Hayes was 19-years-old when on October 2, 2012, Illinois State Police say he was speeding through an Interstate 64 rest area east of Mt. Vernon, sped past a row of parked semis, jumped a curb, and crashed into a tree.

Two passengers in Hayes’ vehicle, 24-year-old Holly Fenton, of Bluford, and 20-year-old Cody Bidabe, of Fairfield were killed. Hayes and two other passengers were injured.

Hayes is charged in Jefferson County with one count misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs and two Class 2 felony counts of aggravated DUI resulting in death for the Oct. 2012 fatal crash.

However, while free on bond in the case, Hayes reportedly fled last March to Florida, where a joint fugitive apprehension task force that was made up of local law enforcement and U.S. Marshals apprehended him last August.

Hayes is currently scheduled for a November 15 jury trial on the charges against him.
