JEFFERSON COUNTY — Authorities have identified the driver killed in a crash Tuesday night near Opdyke as a 33-year-old Belle Rive woman.

Illinois State Police say Lea Boykin was eastbound on Route 142 when her 1999 Ford Taurus was struck head-on by a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck that crossed the center line. Boykin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The impact of the crash caused the truck to roll over in the road and catch fire, and caused the car to leave the road.

The driver of the truck, 18-year-old Chance Grein, of McLeansboro, was taken to the hospital for treatment of major injuries. He has been cited for improper lane usage.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 142, 3/10 of a mile west of Lamp Light Lane.
