ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (AP) — A Houston-area man in custody since December after being charged with killing his 19-year-old wife more than four decades ago in suburban Chicago is out on bail.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports 74-year-old Donnie Rudd was released from the Cook County Jail after posting 10 percent of his $4 million bail. His attorney, Timothy Grace, said Thursday that Rudd posted bond about three weeks ago. He declined to say where Rudd, who has pleaded innocent, is living.

He was arrested last year in Sugar Land, Texas, about 15 miles southwest of Houston.

He is accused in the 1973 beating death of his wife, Noreen Kumeta Rudd. Prosecutors allege Rudd made it appear she had died in a car accident to collect $120,000 in life insurance.
