MOUNT VERNON — A 32-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested early Monday morning in connection with the armed robbery a few hours earlier of a Mt. Vernon convenience store on Benton Road.

Robert G. King was arrested around 4:50 a.m. after Mt. Vernon police located him with property believed taken during an armed robbery of the Huck’s Convenience Store.

Police responded around 1:10 a.m. to the Huck’s on a report of an armed robbery. Initial reports indicated a white male armed with a knife robbed the store of cash and merchandise.

After patrol officers secured the scene, a Mt Vernon Police Department Crime Scene Detective also responded to process the scene.

Officers developed offender information and began searching for him at several Mt Vernon residences, ultimately arresting King. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on a charge of armed robbery. He awaits the filing of formal charges and the setting of bail.
