FRANKLIN COUNTY — A 43-year-old Christopher man has been arrested for murder in connection with the shooting death of his 37-year-old wife last night in Christopher.

Illinois State Police say Brian D. Pheasant is being held in the Franklin County Jail with bail set at $2 million.

Franklin County State’s Attorney Evan Owens says Pheasant is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Franklin County Courthouse in Benton.

Christopher Police responded to the couple’s home Monday night after receiving a 911 call.

Investigators say Beth A. Pheasant, appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler.

Police originally closed down Rt. 14 between State Street and Maple Street as they looked for more information. The road was reopened as of 6:45 a.m.

The case remains under investigation.
