EFFINGHAM COUNTY — A 35-year-old Farina man remained in the Effingham Jail Wednesday following his arrest Tuesday stemming from a series of vehicle thefts in several area counties.

Cody Jones was arrested on four counts of motor vehicle theft, two counts of home invasion, driving under the influence of drugs, and use of a stolen firearm in the commission of an offense, in addition to a string of minor offenses.

Illinois State Police are still compiling information on the series of offenses, but the first vehicle thefts appear to have occurred in the Kinmundy area around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office took reports of stolen vehicles from Jerry Schoreck of Kinmundy and Jessica Lacey of rural Kinmundy.

The Illinois State Police reports they assisted Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and Farina Police Department around 6 p.m. Tuesday on an incident where an apparently stolen vehicle was wrecked near Farina.

The spree came to an end later Tuesday night in Mason where several other vehicles were damaged.

Jones remains in the Effingham County Jail awaiting the formal filing of charges Thursday.
