MARION COUNTY — Republicans swept Marion County races Tuesday night, with every GOP candidate on the ballot bringing home a victory.

For Marion County State’s Attorney, Bill Milner was victorious over his opponent Stephanie Corum by a nearly 3,000 vote margin.

Milner said he appreciates everyone who came out and voted for him, adding that he is humbled and honored by the trust Marion County voters have placed in him and he guarantees he will work hard for them as Marion County State’s Attorney.

He commented that he is proud of the campaign he ran, noting he kept the race about the issues facing Marion County.

Incumbent Republican Coroner Troy Cannon retains his seat, with a nearly 60 percent upset over Democrat Nick Parker, and Republican Mark Miller unseated long-time Democratic Supervisor of Assessments Patty Brough by more than 2,000 votes.

For the Marion County Board, Angela Hiestand won in District 1 over Paul Williams, Creighton Engel topped Sue Andrews in District 2, and Steven Whritenour and Judy Shafer took the two seats available in District 3 winning over Democratic incumbents Greg Smith and Terry Johnston.

Bill Henson took the seat in District 3 over Ray Albert, Judith Meeks-Hakim won in District 4, and she’ll be joined by Democrat Gary Joe Sanders.

In District 5, Republican Adam Smith took one of two seats available, and Democrat Debra Young won the second seat over Democrat Danny Stover.

In Clinton County incumbent Republican State’s Attorney John Hudspeth defeated his Democratic opponent Janice Pulver-Lewis.

In Jefferson County, incumbent Republican Circuit Clerk Randy Pollard defeated Democratic challenger Nicholas LeMay, and for Jefferson County Coroner, Republican Roger Hayse defeated Democrat Christine Hayes.

In Fayette County incumbent Republican Joshua Morrison won a tight race over Democratic challenger Stephen Friedel.

Incumbent Republican Coroner Bruce Bowen pulled in 72-percent of the votes over his Democratic challenger Lori Carter, and incumbent Republican Circuit Clerk Kathy Emerick carried 57-percent of the vote to defeat her Democratic opponent Ashley Towler.

The GOP trend held in Washington County, where Republican Mark Styninger was reelected to the coroner position, garnering 81 percent of the vote over Democratic challenger Fred Klug.

Republican Daniel Bronke beat Democrat Celeste Korando in the race for state’s attorney with 77 percent of the votes cast.
