WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 23-year-old Nashville man was killed in a car accident near Addieville Sunday night.

According to a press release from Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, his office was called to the scene of a one-vehicle accident on County Highway 1 near Addieville where he pronounced Mitchell Stein dead at 11:45 p.m. Sunday.

The investigation indicates Stein was the unrestrained driver of a Ford SUV that was traveling west on County Highway 1 when it unexplainably left the road on the south side, traveled through two wooden fences and a cow pasture before striking a tree in the yard of the residence at 14502 County Highway 1.

No other occupants were in the vehicle, and Stein’s body had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Addieville Fire Department.

An autopsy will not be performed but toxicology samples were taken by Coroner Styninger, and the cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma.

The accident is being investigated by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.  Other agencies on the scene were the Addieville Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance Service, Nashville Police Department, Okawville Police Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
