MARION COUNTY — A 26-year-old Centralia man is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in Marion County Court, after he pleaded guilty in August to felony aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Charles Collins was originally charged with Class X felony charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, in addition to the Class 1 felony charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle in connection with a September 2015 incident in Centralia.

But in August he pleaded guilty in court to the lesser Class 1 charge in exchange for the more serious Class X charges being dismissed.

The charges came after Collins fired shots at a vehicle occupied by Fernando Calcutt and his wife Inez. Fernando was struck in the shoulder and drove to the hospital in Centralia for treatment. He was later released.

Collins and his then girlfriend Amilia “Milli” Rivera – who was driving the SUV that Collins fired from — fled the area after the shooting.

Rivera returned on her own to the area a few months later, but Collins remained at large until arrested in March by the US Marshals Service in Grand Rapids Michigan.

Centralia police had earlier identified Collins as the man injured in the August 2015 shooting in the Maulding Drive area that resulted in the death of his friend, 24-year-old Dustin Ryhnes of Irvington. That shooting remains under an investigation being headed by State Police.
