Judge Allen Lolie sentenced Charles Collins for a September 2015 incident in Centralia where he shot into a vehicle occupied by Fernando Calcutt and his wife Inez. Fernando was struck in the shoulder and drove to the hospital in Centralia for treatment. He was later released.

Collins was originally charged with Class X felony charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, in addition to the Class 1 felony charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle. But in August he pleaded guilty in court to the lesser Class 1 charge in exchange for the more serious Class X charges being dismissed.

Centralia police had earlier identified Collins as the man injured in the August 2015 shooting in the Maulding Drive area that resulted in the death of his friend, 24-year-old Dustin Rhynes of Irvington. That shooting remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
