JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 53-year-old Mt. Vernon woman was convicted Wednesday of two counts of indirect criminal contempt of court for failure to appear on a subpoena to testify in the recent arson and murder trial.

Desiree Oxford was sentenced to eight days each in the Jefferson County Jail on each count, with day-for-day good credit.

Oxford was twice served subpoenas to testify in the trial of 27-year-old Steven Murphy, but she ignored both court demands to appear.

Murphy was convicted in September of first-degree murder, aggravated arson, and residential arson in connection to the June 28, 2015, murder of Tamara Malin and the fire at her 301 Harrison St. home.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on November 29.
