FAYETTE COUNTY — A one-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 70 in Fayette County sent two women to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

According to the Illinois State Police, a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Alexandra V. Rayburn, of Chicago, was traveling east near the St. Elmo exit, when Rayburn lost control of the vehicle and drove off the south shoulder.

The vehicle traveled about 125 yards across a field and up an embankment leading to the I-70 overpass. The vehicle overturned and came to rest at the top of the embankment, near the overpass guardrail.

Both Rayburn and her passenger, 21-year-old Abigail Margaret Schrantz, of Gurnee, were transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham for treatment of injuries.

Both women received multiple citations, including Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Possession of Cannabis, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Rayburn is also facing charges of Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Improper Lane Usage, and Reckless Driving,
