ST. LOUIS (AP) – The St. Louis Board of Aldermen has advanced two bills that could ban the sale of tobacco, electronic cigarettes and vapor products to anyone under the age of 21.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the two bills were advanced Thursday and could be passed by the board as early as Nov. 18. Under the proposed legislation, the city’s Department of Health can send minors into to stores to test whether employees are in compliance.

City police would have the authority to issue citations.

Aldermen Shane Cohn and Scott Ogilvie were opposed to the two bills, arguing that citizens who could vote for president or purchase firearms should be able to buy tobacco products.
