MOUNT VERNON — A Sunday night traffic stop by Mt. Vernon police has landed a 38-year-old man in the Jefferson County Jail on multiple drug charges and for alleged possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Brannon Randall was an occupant of a vehicle stopped around 9:24 p.m. Sunday at10th and Newby.

During the stop the officer requested the Mt. Vernon K-9 Unit perform a walk around and sniff of the vehicle.

But prior to the unit’s arrival, officers searched Randall, and reportedly located a large amount of methamphetamine Ice, numerous prescription pills of assorted medications, and drug equipment. During the K-9 search of the vehicle, officers also reportedly located cannabis.

As the investigation continued, the officers determined the vehicle had been stolen from a business in Carmi.

Randall was arrested on charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of between 15-100 grams of Meth with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Schedule IV Narcotics, Possession of Schedule II Narcotics, Possession of Drug Equipment, and Manufacture with the intent to deliver between 30 and 500 grams of Cannabis.

At the time of his arrest, Randall was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections. Due to the arrest, a parole violation warrant was issued. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
