CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities say two inmates were hurt after a fight broke out and one of them started a fire at the Cook County jail.

Cook County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cara Smith says one of the inmates early Wednesday threw bedsheets and paper outside of his cell and lit them on fire. She says officers put out the fire and opened the cell to find two inmates had been in a fight. They also found one of the inmates had a lighter.

Smith says one inmate had a puncture wound that police believe was from a pen. She says the other inmate was punched in the face. None of the injuries were life-threatening. Both inmates were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The division of the jail where the altercation occurred has maximum security classification.
