WILLIAMSON COUNTY — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident late Wednesday night in Marion that resulted in him suffering gunshot wounds..

According to Marion Police, officers were conducting an investigation into a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of East Warder Street just after 10:30 p.m. when one of the suspects, Joshua T. Hamad, fired a gun at officers and officers then returned fire.

Hamad then fled on foot and was captured after a short foot pursuit. Hamad suffered two bullet wounds to the leg and was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The second subject, a 17-year-old juvenile, was released without charges.

Marion Police along with Illinois State Police continue to investigate. Police say once the initial investigation is complete; it will be sent to the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s office for a determination of the charges of attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
