JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 46-year-old Ashland, Kentucky man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 in Jefferson County early this morning when his vehicle struck the back of a Freightliner semi.

Derron Gentry was pronounced dead by Jefferson County Coroner at the scene of the crash near Mile Marker 88.

According to the Illinois State Police report, the semi, driven by Kiflu H. Mogos of Las Vegas, Nevada, was parked on the right shoulder of the westbound lane and began accelerating with its left turn signal activated to gain speed before merging into the right lane when Gentry’s Chrysler Voyager struck the rear of the trailer.

Both vehicles came to final rest on the right shoulder, and Interstate 64 was closed for extended period of time.
